Moves to ensure accountability at local level was given a further boost with the formation and inauguration of the District Steering Committee (DSC) for Suhum Municipal Assembly. The DSC was inaugurated by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Suhum Municipal Assembly at the Assembly’s conference hall.
The inauguration on October 29 is first of the 100 District Steering Committees to be established across all the 10 regions of Ghana under the Ghana’s Strengthening and Accountability Mechanisms (GSAM) Project. The Project is being implemented by ISODEC, CARE Ghana, and IBIS Ghana.
The DSC’s responsibility is to oversee all activities and raise awareness of the Project in the district.
The seven-member DSC for Suhum consists of Mr Abdallah Salifu, Muslim Development Organisation; Mery Amponsah, Women Development and Youth Community-Based Association; Nana Obeng, a traditional learder; Yaw Opoku Okra, Head of the Assembly Works Committee; Martin Adu Boafo, Presiding Member; James Larweh Samoah, Development Committee Chairman of the Assembly; and Edem Awusi, Community Development Monitor.
On hand for the inauguration included the Chief of Party (COP) of the GSAM Project, Nana Clement Tandoh; DCD of the Suhum Municipal Assembly, Gabriel Dari; Zonal Project Officer of the GSAM, Fidelis Issah Ayipe; and Acting Executive Director of the Centre for Local Governance and Advocacy (CLGA), Gladys Ntette.
