Barclona – The 3rd Congress of the Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance (GWOPA) convened by UN Habitat ended on 18th September 2015 with the induction of new steering committee members. ISODEC was endorsed by the Congress to occupy one of two seats allotted to civil society on the steering committee.
GWOPA is a multi stakeholder platform devoted to improving access to water in the global south through the facilitation of partnerships between public water corporations with abilities (mentors) and other public water companies with needs (mentees). The approach has been described by some as Public-Public-Partnerships (PuPs) and is seen as a growing alternative to Public-Private-Partnerships (PPPs) in the water sector. Facilitated partnerships by GWOPA are based on principles of solidarity and not-for-profit.
The Congress meets every two years to take stock of its activities and to plan for the ensuing periods. This years congress took place from 16th to 18th September 2015 in Barcelona . Leonard Shang-Quartey represented ISODEC at the congress.
