ISODEC ENGAGES SWAZI CSOS ON THE COUNTRY’S PENDING WATER SECTOR REFORMS

Mbabane – Ghanaian, Leonard Shang-Quartey warned Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) not to be influenced by Government such that they ended up becoming GNGOs (Government Non-Governmental Organisations).

Shang-Quartey is a policy analyst for the Integrated Social Development Center in Ghana. He made a presentation on the policy making processes in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Ghana.

He said though there was a thin line, organizations should be careful not to lose their identities.

“We should see ourselves as representing citizens,” he said.

He said when they become GNGOs, it would not be possible to monitor whether citizens were being abused.

Shang-Quartey, however urged that parliament should be engaged in discussions so that they could engage relevant departments when submitting budgets.
